Audition!
We offer everyone the opportunity to audition and participate in our performances, though individuals with disabilities may receive special consideration in the event of two equally-talented artists being considered for a part, as they are provided with less opportunities to perform outside the organization. You do not have to disclose whether or not you are disabled. and are entitled to confidentiality. We usually hold open auditions a week or two before the commencement of rehearsals. In some rare instances, specific roles may be pre-cast with disabled individuals.
We do not cast based on previous experience, but talent / whether or not an actress or actor is believably their respective character according to the director's vision.
Remember: This is not a competition.
Do not be discouraged about casting decisions. Our directors are artists in their fields. When an artist is selecting the materials for a masterpiece - perhaps water colors, oils, or even crayons - they are not choosing whichever is superior, as this is a matter of opinion. Each medium has its own merits. They are choosing whichever suits their artistic vision best. So it is when our directors select their performers. Casting decisions are not a reflection of you personally. We have many equally talented individuals audition, and unfortunately, less roles to offer.
We always evaluate based on your current audition, not your previous efforts, and provide second chances in the audition room if you feel that your first try wasn't your finest effort. This is a casual, friendly process. We respect that an anxiety disorder, like POTS, can be an invisible disability. If you have any special concerns or questions, do not hesitate to contact us with them at Info@CarterPlaysforPOTS.org. We can offer the option to audition via a video submission.
